Detox basics — what's actually happening

Most people think 'detox' means colon cleanse. It's three phases, and skipping any of them is why people feel worse instead of better.

Phase 1 · Loosen

Bitters, herbs that thin bile, gentle movers. The body opens its drainage routes — liver, kidneys, lymph, bowel. If you skip this phase, you're trying to drain a clogged sink.

What phase one looks like in practice:

  • A bitter tincture or tea before each meal
  • Dry brushing or a sauna two or three times a week
  • Walking — actually walking, twenty minutes a day
  • Hydration brought up first (spring water + sea salt) before anything else changes

Phase 2 · Kill / mobilize

This is where most cleanse kits start, and that's the mistake. Antiparasitics, antimicrobials, and chelators only do their job if drainage is open. We sequence them after phase one, not before.

This is also where things get strong. Black walnut, wormwood, clove for parasites. Cilantro, charcoal, and bentonite clay for heavy metals. These aren't gentle herbs — they're targeted ones, and they need a binder behind them.

Phase 3 · Bind and escort

Activated charcoal and bentonite clay. Whatever phase two mobilizes will recirculate without a binder. This is the step almost no commercial cleanse explains, and it's the difference between a hard week and a healing one.

The binder window: two hours after every dose of a phase-two herb, you take a binder. That's it. That's the whole secret. Skip it and you'll feel everything you just stirred up coming back through your bloodstream — fatigue, headaches, brain fog, mood swings. People call that a 'healing crisis.' It's actually a missed binder.

Why most cleanses leave people feeling worse

They run phase two without phase one. Or they run phase two with no binder. Or they run a 30-day cycle on someone whose first cycle should have been seven days. Sequencing matters more than ingredients.

A 7-day reset done right will outperform a 30-day cleanse done wrong, every time.

Where to start

If you've never run a real detox, start with our 7-day quick cleanse. It teaches your body the rhythm of release-bind-rest before you commit to a 30-day arc. Most people who do the 7-day come back for the 30-day six weeks later, and the 30-day goes much smoother for it.

What not to do

Don't run a deep parasite cleanse on day one. Don't fast through phase two. Don't run two cleanses back-to-back without a maintenance week between them. Don't take binders within an hour of medications.

If you're on prescription medication, take a binder at least an hour before or two hours after your meds — binders are non-selective and will pull whatever's in your gut, including pharmaceuticals.
