The Dr. Sebi approved food list
The nutritional guide that sits underneath every protocol we run — the alkaline, electric plant foods Dr. Sebi identified, sorted by category, with what to eat, what to avoid, and how we actually use it in the shop.
01 · Why this list exists
Dr. Sebi's food guide is a short list of alkaline, non-hybrid, plant-based foods that support an alkaline body. Nothing on it is a superfood. What matters is what's NOT on it — hybrid grains, animal products, seedless produce, refined sugars, and the acid-forming staples that most Americans eat three times a day.
The herbs we sell do the loosening, mobilizing, and binding. The food list does the maintaining. Run a 30-day protocol on a standard American diet and you'll undo half the work between doses. Run it while eating from this list and the protocol compounds.
02 · How to read the list
Two rules cover almost everything:
- ●If it's on the list, it's alkaline, non-hybrid, and safe to eat freely.
- ●If it's not on the list, it's not necessarily poison — it's just not doing the work.
Seedless fruit, hybrid greens (iceberg, spinach, kale in most grocery stores), and any animal product sit outside the list. Not because they're evil, but because they don't move the terrain toward alkaline.
03 · Vegetables
The approved vegetables — eat these freely, daily, in as much variety as you can source:
- ●Amaranth greens (callaloo)
- ●Arugula (wild, not hybrid)
- ●Avocado
- ●Bell peppers
- ●Chayote (Mexican squash)
- ●Cucumber
- ●Dandelion greens
- ●Garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
- ●Izote (cactus flower / cactus leaf)
- ●Kale (heirloom / wild strains)
- ●Lettuce (all EXCEPT iceberg)
- ●Mushrooms (all EXCEPT shiitake)
- ●Nopales (Mexican cactus)
- ●Okra
- ●Olives
- ●Onions
- ●Poke salad greens
- ●Purslane (verdolaga)
- ●Sea vegetables (wakame, dulse, arame, hijiki, nori)
- ●Squash
- ●Tomatoes (cherry and plum only)
- ●Tomatillo
- ●Turnip greens
- ●Watercress
- ●Zucchini
04 · Fruits (no seedless fruits)
Every fruit on this list has seeds — seedless is hybrid, and hybrid isn't on the list.
- ●Apples
- ●Bananas (the smallest ones or burro/mid-size)
- ●Berries: elderberries, mulberries, blackberries, raspberries (no cranberries or strawberries)
- ●Cantaloupe
- ●Cherries
- ●Currants
- ●Dates
- ●Figs
- ●Grapes (seeded)
- ●Limes (key limes preferred)
- ●Mangoes
- ●Melons (seeded)
- ●Orange (Seville or sour)
- ●Papayas
- ●Peaches
- ●Pears
- ●Plums
- ●Prickly pear (cactus fruit)
- ●Prunes
- ●Raisins (seeded)
- ●Soft jelly coconuts
- ●Soursops
- ●Tamarind
05 · Grains (ancient, non-hybrid)
These are the six grains Dr. Sebi named. Notably absent: wheat, corn, rice, and oats — all hybridized.
- ●Amaranth
- ●Fonio
- ●Kamut
- ●Quinoa
- ●Rye (spelt-based)
- ●Spelt
- ●Teff
- ●Wild rice
Use them the same way you'd use rice or pasta — as a base for greens, sauces, and stews. Spelt pasta and spelt flour are the easiest swaps for anyone transitioning off wheat.
06 · Nuts, seeds, and oils
Nuts and seeds:
- ●Brazil nuts
- ●Hemp seeds
- ●Raw sesame seeds
- ●Raw tahini butter
- ●Walnuts
Oils (all raw / cold-pressed, never cooked into oxidation):
- ●Avocado oil
- ●Coconut oil (do not cook)
- ●Grapeseed oil
- ●Hempseed oil
- ●Olive oil (do not cook)
- ●Sesame oil
When you cook, use coconut or avocado oil at low heat only. High-heat cooking oxidizes even the good oils into inflammatory fats.
07 · Herbs, spices, and sweeteners
Mild flavors:
- ●Basil
- ●Bay leaf
- ●Cloves
- ●Dill
- ●Oregano
- ●Parsley
- ●Savory
- ●Sweet basil / thyme / tarragon
Pungent and spicy:
- ●Achiote
- ●Cayenne / African bird pepper
- ●Habanero
- ●Onion powder
- ●Sage
Salty:
- ●Pure sea salt (unrefined, grey or pink)
- ●Powdered granulated seaweed (kelp, dulse)
Sweeteners:
- ●100% pure agave syrup (from cactus)
- ●Date sugar (from dried dates)
No table salt (chemically stripped), no cane sugar, no honey (animal product), no maple syrup (usually processed with formaldehyde).
08 · Herbal teas
The alkaline-friendly teas — most of what we blend and steep in the shop lives on this list:
- ●Allspice
- ●Anise
- ●Burdock
- ●Chamomile
- ●Elderberry
- ●Fennel
- ●Ginger
- ●Raspberry
- ●Tila (linden flower)
No black tea, no green tea, no matcha, no yerba mate — all caffeinated, all outside the list. If you need a warm caffeine-adjacent ritual, our alkaline mushroom coffee blend is built for that gap.
09 · What to avoid (and why)
The categories that undo an alkaline protocol faster than anything:
- ●All animal products (meat, dairy, eggs, honey, fish, shellfish)
- ●Wheat, corn, rice, oats — hybrid grains
- ●Iceberg lettuce, kale from most grocery stores, spinach — hybrid greens
- ●Seedless fruit of any kind
- ●White sugar, brown sugar, cane sugar, artificial sweeteners
- ●Table salt (chemically processed)
- ●Yeast and fermented alcohol
- ●Canola, corn, soybean, and vegetable oil
- ●Any packaged food with more than five ingredients
You don't need to be perfect. You need to be consistent enough that the terrain moves. A 90/10 week beats a 100/0 day, every time.
10 · How to actually shop this list
The pantry we suggest to anyone starting a 30-day protocol:
- ●A bag of spelt or quinoa
- ●A jar of raw tahini and a jar of olive oil
- ●Sea salt, cayenne, oregano, basil
- ●One heavy leafy green you'll actually cook (callaloo, dandelion, or heirloom kale)
- ●Avocados, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives — for salads that don't require cooking
- ●One fruit you love from the list (mango, papaya, or dates)
- ●Sea moss gel from the shop (or made from dried moss)
- ●Spring water — a real gallon, not tap
That's a starting kit. Everything else on the list is a variety upgrade, not a requirement.
11 · How we use this list in our protocols
During a Detox protocol: lean the whole plate onto greens, sea vegetables, and bitter foods (dandelion, arugula, watercress). Skip fruit-heavy days — sugar, even fruit sugar, feeds what you're trying to remove.
During a Cellular or Immune protocol: fruit is welcome. Berries and citrus (Seville orange, key lime) support the mineralization phase. Sea moss daily is the anchor.
During the Parasite protocol: raw onion, oregano, cloves, and cayenne become daily seasonings. No refined sugar of any kind for the full lunar window.
In maintenance: 90% of your plate from this list, one 'life' meal a week if you need it. That's the actual sustainable version.
